What is Online Poker?
Poker has been played for centuries but before poker became available online, it was best known to be played in smokey rooms in back rooms of land-based casinos. In 2003 Chris Moneymaker qualified to the World Series of Poker through a $40 online tournament. He was the first amateur to win the main event and walked away with the title and $2.5 million.
This revolution is known as the poker boom and resulted in the game being showcased on ESPN which led to hundreds of players flocking to online poker sites.
There are many variations of the popular game being offered with the most popular being Texas Hold’em. The game is incredibly popular because players play against each other and not against to casino which allows players to combine skill and strategy to better their chances of winning.
And, the best perk is that you can play it from the comfort of your own home at any time of the day or night.
First you will need to know what hands will give you the greatest chance of winning so take some time to memorise it. Or, because you are playing online, write it down and keep it close so that you are more confident to make the best move.

How to Play
Players are dealt two hole cards. The hole cards are for the player exclusively and can not be used by any other players at the table. After the hole cards are dealt face down, a betting round occurs.
The first three community cards are the dealt referred to a ‘the flop’ after which another betting round takes place. The community cards can be used by all players at the table.
Then the fourth community card is dealt (the turn) followed by a round of betting. The last community card is then dealt (the river) and after a betting round, players need to make their best hand using one or two hole cards and three or four community cards. The player with the best hands wins the pot.
It has the same betting rounds as Texas Hold’em but players are dealt with four community cards and they need to use two of them specifically along with three community cards to make their best 5-card hand.
Players are dealt with two cards face down and one card face up. The player with the lowest face up card starts the betting round. The fourth, fifth and sixth cards are all dealt face up while the seventh card is dealt face down. This variation does not have community cards and as in Hold’em, players need to make their best 5-card hand.
